Using SCVMM Powershell to move VM

$

Hello Everybody.

I made a powershell to Live migrate a lot of VMs VHDs to another share storage in the cluster, Ej:

  • Now the VHDXs are in C:\Cluster Storage\VMStorageDisks\

well,

  • I want to move to C:\Cluster Storage\NewVMsVHDX

I’m Running the Powershell in my PC (I just have access to the SCVVM Console).

I’m Using the SCVMM Cmdlets:

Move-SCVirtualHardDisk -VirtualHardDisk $VHDXtoMove -Path $NewVHDxPath

My Questions:

When I say move to C:\Cluster Storage\NewVMsVHDX\VMname

  • Will be in the Cluster Share or in my PC?
  • Will the SCVMM create the New Folder if it doesn’t exist?

Many thanks and have a nice week,

Is there some kind of a limitation on how many vm's can be running on a vmm trial license cluster ?

I have 6 machines created in a cluster and i can only have 4 accessing the network at the same time.

Any ideas what may be ?

 Thank you.

VMM Client Can't Connect 2012 R2

I have tried to install Update Rollup 7 on the SCVMM server, 3066340 worked, 3078314 & 3078315 did not. I get an error the program being upgraded is missing.

My issue is, VMM works fine on SCVMM server. VMM also works fine on my desktop. VMM does not work on my VEEAM server. VMM loads and just keeps spinning. Domain Credentials the same on both. VMM is not stuck as I can exit by pressing the red X and it closes immediately. I can telnet to 8100 no problem.

New Version of SCVMM?

Hello All,

For anybody in the know, are there any plans for an overhaul of the current System Center Virtual Machine Manager R2 in terms of a refresh of the management console interface, operation, increased levels of functionality, etc. in the coming future? One of my biggest complaints with Hyper-V has been the lack of holistic management capabilities within SCVMM. Current Hyper-V environments still require at a *minimum* the use of 3 different consoles on each individual Hyper-v host: Hyper-V Management MMC, the Cluster Management MMC and Disk Management MMC. I am really hoping to see a revised SCVMM version that consolidates all pertinent Hyper-V operations under a single console, like and has been the case with vCenter since its infancy. Also an improvement in the responsiveness and efficiency of such a critical piece of management.

We are looking at a Hyper-V deployment of 8-12 hosts and about 300 VM's. However I am concerned about the increase in overall management for this environment. I would like that piece of mind in knowing that Microsoft is addressing the current level of disparity and lack of efficiency in its *centralized* management of Hyper-V environments.

Anybody able to share some good news??

SCVMM 2012 SP1 with Windows 2012 R2 Hypervisor check point issues

hi

i have Windows 2012 R2 Hypervisor with SCVMM 2012 SP1(RTM) on Windows 2012 R2 Server, when i try to create checkpoint for VM from SCVMM, backend it will create checkpoint, but SCVMM job says it's failed (with running state), if you shutdown VM and take checkpoint from SCVMM, it will create from SCVMM,

as i found, if we have SCVMM 2012 R2, this will fix ( with Windows 2012 R2 Hypervisor), but is there any rollup for SCVMM 2012 SP1 to fix it issue .

thank you

SCVMM Bare Metal Deployment - Unable to configure BCD record on physical computer

Hi All,

I am stumped on this one, I am trying to perform a bare metal deployment of a Hyper-V server using SCVMM.

The server successfully PXE boots, performs deep discovery, downloads the VHD file and expands it.

The job fails with error:

Error (21114)
Unable to configure BCD record on physical computer D8BFA327-ADD6-DF11-1000-00000000001C.

Recommended Action
Verify that the physical computer profile and the physical computer information match.

On the physical server itself in the log file you can see:

0650.0610::09/28-15:57:59.031#00:exceptions.cpp(97)[000000000238CF: CarmineException::CarmineException: CarmineError: 21114,  hr: 0x8099527a

Above it in the log, I can see this error:

0650.0610::09/28-15:57:57.780#11:FindVolume.cpp(72): FindVolumes, Failed to IOCTL_STORAGE_GET_DEVICE_NUMBER to [\\?\Volume{d9b257fc-684e-4dcb-ab79-03cfa2f6b750}]

Some details:

Using SCVMM 2012 R2 RU6 on Windows Server 2012 R2
Physical Server is a UCS Blade M2 B200
Storage is Boot from SAN connected via Fiber to a EMC Clariion.

I originally thought this might be due to the physical disk appearing multiple times and WinPE does not support MPIO. I have dropped the number of paths down to 1 so the disk is only showing once for the server.

Does anyone have any ideas why it might be failed at the BCD start stage?

Thanks

Pieces of SCVMM Configuration Lost/Missing in GUI?

I setup SCVMM about 2 months ago.  I logged into to create a VM using one of our templates and I noticed we are missing huge pieces of our configuration.  An entire host group for our Training network and the below example.

I had Hyper V Replica Setup for one of our VM's and this entire configuration in VMM is 'gone.'  However when I attempt to add it back again 'GSCloud' as seen in the screenshot.  It says it already exists.  Well it clearly doesn't exist in the GUI.  I am not familiar enough with PS to troubleshoot and I would be more than happy to with some direction.

I only keep backups for about a month so whatever state this was working in is far gone.

Any ideas of how to recover or if others have seen this before?

Add Machine Tier To Existing Service

$

I'm wondering if there's a way to add another machine tier to an existing service by modifying the service template that was used to create the service. Basically, I created a single machine service using a template that I had created for a basic Server 2008 R2 deployment, following the idea that "even if the service has only one server, you should use a service template"

However, after I created the service and deployed it, I then realized that the service requires another server. I don't want to tear down the existing service but rather wanted to simply modify the service template, add a second machine tier, then "re-deploy" the template and update the existing service. I can't seem to find out how to accomplish this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Darren.

SCVMM 2012 High Bandwidth Utilization

I've got a SCVMM 2012 (no R2 no SP1) running on Windows Server 2008 R2, and has been running for about 17 months. Last month i've been contacted by our administrator that the traffic is so high.

When we take a look at it, there are so many traffic went to port 5985 and from port 5985 (WinRM port).

I've been searching the solution in technet, the best explanation and solution is for SCVMM 2012 R2 by installing rollup update 6 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3050317 issue 11). Because i've been using a non-R2 product, i think the solution is not compatible with my SCVMM Server.

Is there any solution for my case?

Thank you.

And here i attach wireshark results, my SCVMM Server IP is 10.234.1.81

System Center 2012 R2 Cmdlets automation in C#

Hi,

I am running VMM server powershell scripts from C# code. First thing I am doing is "Get-VMMServer" to get the SCVMM connection. This command is same in all powershell scripts and I want to avoid it.

Can Get-VMMServer be called only once and use the same connection in all powershell script execution?

Hi

Using SCVMM 2012R2 update 6.

I have a machine stored in library with snapshots. Somehow SCVMM fucked it up, so now the minimum memory settings is 4MB and therefor it wont allow me to deploy it to a host. And I cannot changed the value when its in library, so how can I fix it?

Revert from WinRM 3.0 to WinRM 2.0

Hello,

I am trying to install System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 in a Hyper-V 2012 R2 environment, and when I run the analyzer, I get this alert:

Category: Prerequisite
Source: hyper-1
Issue: The above issue was found about Windows Remote Management (WinRM) on the specified server.
Impact: The specified server cannot be used for VMM server roles such as host/library/PXE server/WSUS server/VMM management server.
Resolution: On the specified server:
1. Verify that the WinRM service is present and running by running the command net start winrm at a command prompt using elevated privileges
2. Run the command winrm id at an elevated command prompt, verify that no error is received, and that Stack=2.0
3. Run the command winrm qc at an elevated command prompt.

The verify output indicates that I am running Stack=3.0. My question is, if I uninstall WinRM 3.0 will it automatically revert to WinRM 2.0

VMM-Maintenance Mode

$

I am doing some work on my secondary cluster and need to bring my secondary host servers down. I use these servers for Hyper V replication. One option migrates the VMs to another node. This makes all the VMs migrate to the last node standing and of course it takes a while to shut it down because of this. The other option says that it will place the VMs in a saved state and then start the VMs after maintenance mode is cancelled. These are replica VMs. If they start, they will conflict with the VMs that are currently running in production on the primary side. What is the best method of shutting down these servers in this case?

VMM 2012R2 Host networking report - powershell

$

Hello all,

I am trying to write a Powershell script to export the VMM networking configuration from each VMM Host (Logical Switches, Virtual Network adapters, VM Networks & Subnets assigned etc, basically everything on the "Virtual Switches" Tab in the VMM Host properties tab), but I can't quite figure out how to generate it for each host.

I can use Get-SCVMHostNetworkAdapter , Get-SCVMNetwork, Get-SCLogicalSwitch etc etc to get the networking parts of what I want, but I am unsure how to export this in relation to each Host.

I can also get some of it using the Hyper-V cmdlets, but I would ideally like the VMM representation of the networking components.

Something along the lines of this is what i am after:

Host1, Logical Switch1, Network Team Member 1
Host1, Logical Switch1, Network Team Member 2
Host1, Logical Switch1, Virtual Network Adapter 1, VM Network, VM Subnet, Port Classification, IP Pool
Host1, Logical Switch1, Virtual Network Adapter 2, VM Network, VM Subnet, Port Classification, IP Pool

Any help greatly appreciated.

David
